My experiment (completed)

After a few days of planning I am now able to start writing my experiment. This indicates the aim, method, equipment and variables. It is an elaborated version of my mind-map.

Aim: To determine the thickness of honey using golf balls

Equipment: 500 ml of honey (4 different types), 4 golf balls, stop watch, 1 L measuring cup, 4 empty jars, permanent marker

Variables:
Independent: The different types of honey
Dependent: The time taken for the golf ball to sink to the bottom of the jar
Controlled: Same amount of honey, same type of golf ball, same mass of golf ball, same size of golf ball

Method:
1. Name the 4 empty jars one to four
2. Pour 500 ml of honey into jar one
3. Place a golf ball into the jar and start the stop watch
4. Time how long it takes for the golf ball to sink to the bottom
5. Record your first time into a table
6. Repeat steps 2-4 using the other types of honey
7. Redo the experiment three or four more times to increase reliability and validity
8. Find the average of the time for each jar using all the recorded results
9. Graph the results
